The look: This is killer shine, almost wet but glossy not greasy. From gelled sides to slicked-back roots this flat-to-the-head look works well when it leads into a sleek low ponytail or with loose lengths revealing a contrasting matte texture.
The tip: Make high shine more wearable by using your finger tips to pat L’Oreal Professional Mythic Oil just along your parting for a top-of-the-head highlight that bounces the light.
The look: Plaits are the tress trend that keeps on coming and we’re not complaining. This season they’re either glossy or matte, but always messy. Handy for those of us who aren’t perfectionists!
The tip: Arm yourself with a cocktail of products for a chalky grip and to seal the shape. At the Giles show they used Label.M Professional Resurrection Style Dust, Miracle Fibre and Extreme Hold Hairspray.
The look: Victoria Beckham has proved you don’t have to wear trainers to nail the sports luxe look. From stretchy headbands at her show, to blinging visors at Marni, the trend for workout wear as hair accessories was much more chic than eek. We love it when fashion is practical as well as pretty.
The tip: Best positioned close to the front of head, just over the tips of the ears. It looks particularly cool with messy hair, up or down.
Extreme side partings
The look: Androgyny is having a moment but the trend for the 1930s-inspired boyish comb-over actually oozes confidence and can look super-sexy.
The tip: Try taking a ‘selfie’ to work out which side your part suits you best, mirrors reverse and distort your image. And if you like body in your hair, don’t let that put you off this trend. Use your fingers instead of a brush to part and style your hair.
The tip: Prepping your hair with product is really important. Try L’Oreal Professional Tecni Art Pli then style. The quicker you do it, the better it looks. If it’s contrived it loses its coolness
The look: Lived-in locks are huge for Spring/Summer ’14. At Topshop Unique they were rougher than beachy waves, while at Balmain they were soft and sleepy. The key is making this look undone, but well done.
The tip: Try rinsing your hair with water and using just a conditioner, rather than shampooing every day. This will give your hair texture without grease
The look: The 70s are major for Spring/Summer and the way to tackle the trend is with retro curls. The look has a modern twist with low side partings (did we mention they were a trend?) and they’re completely frizz-free.
The tip: Twist and pin damp hair then allow drying before shaking loose for effortlessly elegant texture
The look: Glossy, nautical waves are the new look for beachy blondes this year. Both clean and wet-look textures work and a center-parting look current.
