Flash memories, portable hard discs, cloud services… Does anyone remember the good old time when we used CDs and DVDs? Most probably you still have a useless pile of them … but you are to sentimental to just throw them away.
Don`t worry, there is a way to create a beautiful piece of art using recycled CDs and DVDs.
Prepare your old DVDs and CD and start cutting them into “pie pieces” and tore each piece from the center ring of the disk. Then cut into random small pieces.
Please bear in mind that the DVDs have two layers – divide them and use the upper one. The front side for your project will be the actual back side of the disk, as it is shiny and colorful. You may want to spray the piece with Krylon Crystal Clear Gloss.
In this tutorial an old birdbath is used as a base, but feel free to experiment and stick the pieces onto different surfaces and utilities.
Start from the outside, by carefully sticking every single piece. Circle around until you cover the full area. About 20 DVDs have been used for this tutorial.
Now, you need some grout. It might be scaring if you`ve never done such a thing before, but take it easy. You need a spatula and everything will be all right.
Read the grout instructions before spreading it around, otherwise you may ebd up with some unwanted consequences.
Now you can take a thousand pictures of your masterpiece, share it with friends and use it the way you want!
