The 67th annual Cannes festival will take place from 14th to 25th May and will feature numerous masterpieces of the film industry. The Cannes Film Festival is considered one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world and it is an event everyone is expecting impatiently. This year the festival has been opened with the very promising movie “Grace of Monaco”, starring Nicole Kidman. It tells the story of the glamorous film-star Grace Kelly, who abandoned a successful carrier and married the Prince of Monaco.
The movie was accepted with some controversy, especially after Prince Albert of Monaco, stated there were too many historical accurateness and some of the scenes were “purely fictional“. However, many people stand up for the fact that this is a Hollywood blockbuster – not a documentary, so fiction is allowed in certain boundaries. This controversy will definitely cause many interesting discussions and somewhere in between we may find out the truth.
“Grace of Monaco” is out of the competition, but it does not make it easier for the jury, because the competition for the Golden Palm is very serious. There are titles such as “Clouds of Sils Maria”, “Saint
Laurent”, “Winter Sleep”, “Two Days, One Night” and many others, which certainly deserve the highest recognition.
Jane Campion – a New Zealand Director (The Piano) will be this year`s chairman and unlike any other year, this year`s jury is mainly female. What will be their decision – this is the question the whole world now asks.
The winner will be announced on 24th May, because of the forthcoming European Parliament elections. Which movie will be awarded the prestigious prize is still a mystery, but we`ll continue to update you with interesting and useful information about this year`s Cannes Film Festival.
