Something blue, something new, something old, something borrowed – everyone knows about this wedding tradition. The bride needs to have all of these in order to experience a joyous and harmonious future with her chosen one. But have you ever thought what more than curious traditions are there about the wife’s shoes?
Many women ignore or just don’t pay too much attention to the shoes they will be wearing at that special day except for their feeling of comfort and the colour coordination with her man and her dress. The women in China, however, don’t have this liberty. The bride needs to wear red shoes and not only this, but one of them will definitely be thrown out of the roof as a symbol of the future happiness of the couple.
In the United States, on the other hand, the habits related to shoes at weddings are quite more fun! Footwear is usually attached to the bumper of the ‘Just Married’ car of the couple. In fact, this is a small leftover symbol from a previous local tradition when the father f the bride gave a shoe belonging to his daughter to the groom as a token of his acceptance and support.
There are many nation-specific traditions that make the wedding shoes of the bride, and often the groom, a more than important part of the celebration. Of course, not everyone needs to drink from a slipper as they do in Hungary, but it is always something worth trying!
