Weird and wonderful celebrity artwork: bacteria, trash and more…
Strange celebrity artwork: bacteria portraits
Celebrities including Stephen Fry and Carol Vorderman are fusing art and science together to create some rather unique portraits of themselves. The stars teamed up with American microbiologist and photographer Zachary Copfer to create these weird and wonderful images, which have been made out of their own bacteria.
Who knew that bacteria could look so good?
The stars had their photographs taken by Copfer, who then made them into negatives, placed them over a petri dish and shot through with radiation to burn away the bacteria (from their own arms) in places, leaving the finished images to appear over two days.
Children’s TV presenters Dick and Dom also had their portraits created, along with Hollyoaks star Kieron Richardson and Bang Goes The Theory presenter Liz Bonnin in a bid to promote The Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair where the pictures will go on show.
Loose Women host Carol Vorderman said: “As a patron of The Big Bang Fair, engaging young people in science, technology, engineering and maths is a very big part of what I do.”
They’re pretty realistic portraits, don’t you think?
Although we wouldn’t want our own bacteria hanging on any walls!
